~ Rocky Mountain Guitar Slides - A friend of Woodenpicks.com ~
Own a rocky mountain guitar slide from www.rockymountainslides.com and you will have a truly
unique hand crafted guitar slide in your arsenal. Recently the "Doc" (Todd Sigmier) was kind
enough to send a sample of these great sounding slides to me in exchange for some exotic
hardwood guitar picks. I decided that these slides were definitely worth a small review, so here
is what I found after a few months of playing:
The plus side
- Killer tone balanced specifically for electric guitars or acoustic depending on your needs
- Great Looks
- Exceptional weight
- Very long sustain in comparison with other "glass" or porcelain slides of equal size
- Extra room on the inner diameter allows for quick removal during guitar playing
The downside
- Slightly irregular shape takes some practice to get comfortable with, but this was easily overcome
in a few hours of play. The feel and sound of these slides are remarkable
This was the only drawback to using the slide I could find. However it is a handcrafted product and
some degree of variance should be expected, and can work to a slide guitar players advantage in
certain situations. If you purchase one, you must give it some time to "tune in" to the slides unique feel.
After a few weeks you will be quite pleased that you did. Of course, most slide guitar players do not
tie themselves down to just one slide (and all have a trusted companion that feels good to their own
style hidden somewhere in the gig bag). It is worth the effort and reasonable price to acquire at least
one slide from Rocky Mountain Slides, but after awhile you will wish you had each model.
Currently, they have developed two "tone specific" guitar slides:
1. The Blues Boy Slide- Developed for the electric guitar player. Geared for lower string action with
less fret buzz.
2. The Salidan Slide- Developed for the acoustic player that desires a more "traditional" feel. This
model is the brightest sounding ceramic slide on the market today.
3. Black Voodoo - This is the latest & greatest slide being offered on all ceramic models from RMS.
As the picture below shows, the best description is "beautiful" (Onyx Black slide with the tip kissed
in a Fire Red). All of the tone + the best in looks!
Models are available in either Electric Blue, Voodoo Black , Mojo Green, & Hellhound Red.
